Vice President, Biology

As a member of the senior management team the Vice President, Biology will participate in and contribute to corporate strategy and multi-disciplinary research activities directed toward the discovery and development of novel small-molecule cancer therapeutics. The successful candidate will provide expertise and leadership to a team of biologists covering all aspects of in vitro and in vivo studies, from target identification/validation through candidate selection, on several oncology drug discovery
programs. This responsibility involves the design, analysis, interpretation and reporting of biological studies, including the assessment of new therapeutic target opportunities, preparation of regulatory filings, and elucidating clinical opportunities for our development programs. The Vice President, Biology will report directly to the CEO.  The successful candidate will:

Participate in refining the company's strategic direction and goals:
 Help define and implement scientific and business strategy as a member of the senior
management team
 Communicate corporate goals to ensure scientific efforts are aligned with corporate objectives
 Interact with Scientific Advisory Board and scientific consultants to continually
challenge and refine the company’s strategy to achieve the greatest probability for success
 Assist in seeking research and/or technology alliances with appropriate academia, government and industry partners, and key opinion leaders

Contribute senior level expertise and leadership:
 Develop a cohesive cancer biology strategy which informs development candidate selection as well as tumor type selection
 Devise an efficient and effective approach for the evaluation and/or validation of new oncology targets
 Develop an outsourcing strategy to augment company capabilities and capacity including the identification, selection and management of vendors and contractors
 Facilitate translational research, including potential biomarker development, and patient segmentation strategies

Lead Group of biological scientists:
 Recruit, retain and nurture key scientific personnel
 Provide strategic and technical guidance for the biology and pharmacology teams
 Allocate biology resources to best meet corporate and project goals
 Identify and implement relevant technologies and methods for program progression

 Comprehensive understanding of oncology drug discovery
 Proven track record of leading projects from early discovery through candidate nomination and solving complex challenges while working within cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams
 Superior leadership, communication and presentation skills that enable development and retention of a high performance teams
 Ph.D. in pharmacology; molecular, cell or cancer biology; or related field with 10+ years of industrial and/or academic research in oncology drug discovery
 Translational medicine and/or drug development exposure preferred
 Motivated team player with an ability to work both independently and closely with a
multidisciplinary team of medicinal chemists, biologists, clinical partners and external
collaborators in a dynamic startup environment
 Decisiveness and experience working with aggressive timelines
